Jesus said, "Be perfect, as your Heavenly Father is perfect."  Since every sin is an offense against God and against one another, every sin separates us from the love of God and others, and it disrupts our friendship with God and others.  Sin prevents us from becoming holy and perfect.

Therefore, Jesus Christ has saved us and washed away our sins by his blood, death, and resurrection.  Our sins are forgiven.

Furthermore, our Savior Jesus Christ gave Peter the power to forgive sins.  In that way, Jesus instituted the Sacrament of Penance in His Church.  Thus the faithful, who fall into sin after baptism may be reconciled with God and renewed in His Grace.  So that we are free to love God and others again, and we strive to be perfect and holy every day in our journey of faith on earth toward the heavenly kingdom of God.
